Take Steps to Avoid Typhoid Before Travel

Typhoid

Typhoid fever can be developed after exposure to Salmonella in foods or water. Typical cases of typhoid fever involve accidentally consuming foods washed in tainted water. This virus is known to spread like the common flu, which is through close contact with a person who is infected with Typhoid Fever.

Since Typhoid Fever can spread quickly, it is important to know the symptoms of this severe virus. People who are infected with typhoid fever may display a fever in the range of 103° to 104° F (39° to 40° C). Also, patients with typhoid fever may suffer from chronic fatigue, chronic abdominal pain, headaches, and reduced appetite. A severe rash may also arise on parts of the body. To determine if your symptoms are related to typhoid fever, a doctor will require fecal samples and will perform blood tests.

Although symptoms may dissipate in time, the virus may still be present and contagious. Be sure to complete the entire prescribed medication before engaging in direct contact with someone. People who typhoid fever may be restricted from working with food, children, or the elderly.

Keep in mind that vaccines may not provide complete protection from typhoid fever, but being vaccinated one to two weeks before travel may help your body fight off typhoid bacteria. Always be cautious of what you eat and drink in other countries. If you are a frequent traveler, you may need to renew your vaccination every two to three years, depending on your condition and the countries in which you are traveling. Restrictions may apply to patients who currently take antibiotics.

Patients who currently have complications with typhoid fever or experience trouble breathing will be directed to the nearest emergency room.

This clinic is very professional. My Dr. Is attentive, understanding and professional. The treatment plan has been working great for me. There's a guy in the front office, I think his name is Eddie, he is very knowledgeable, friendly and super helpful. I had some questions regarding paperwork, he went out of his way to explain everything to me and prevented me from making a mistake I would have seriously regretted. Thanks Eddie!read more
