Benefits of Birth Control

Birth control pills and shots are two of the easiest and most effective methods of preventing unplanned pregnancies when taken correctly. In addition to preventing pregnancies, they can also assist with those who have heavy or painful periods, those who have reproductive issues such as endometriosis or fibroids, and those who have acne or other health issues that can be treated by low-dose hormones.

Who Should Consider Birth Control?

Women who are in their child-bearing years and who are or plan to be sexually active should consider the birth control pill or shot. In addition, those women who want to treat long, painful, or heavy periods may also want to consider birth control.

There are some women who should not take the birth control pill or receive the shot for health reasons. These include those with a blood clotting disorder, those who smoke and are over 35 years of age, those with lupus, migraines, or diabetes, and those who have had breast cancer or thinning of the bones.

When you speak with a physician at EZCare Clinic, he or she will go over your health history to ensure you are a good candidate for birth control pills or shots and that it will not pose a health risk for you.

Types of Birth Control Offered at EZCare Clinic

Birth Control Pills

Birth control pills are a form of hormonal contraception and can be progestin only or a combination of progestin and estrogen. Depending on the type you are prescribed, you will either get three weeks of active pills and one week of placebo pills (combination) or 28 days of active pills (progestin-only). Birth control pills work by preventing the release of eggs from your ovaries as well as increasing the buildup of mucus around the cervix. This combination of methods is 99 percent effective in preventing pregnancy if taken as directed. A typical use of birth control pills is approximately 91 percent effective as many women miss pills, take pills late, or sometimes take other prescriptions that interfere with their contraception effectiveness.

Birth Control Shots

Birth control shots such as Depo-Provera are hormonal injections of progestin that prevent unwanted pregnancies for a three-month time frame. These work in a similar manner as birth control pills by preventing ovulation and increasing the mucus buildup around the opening of the cervix. The shot is 99 percent effective in preventing pregnancies for those who get the shot every three months as directed. A typical use of the shot, which includes some women getting it later than directed, is 94 percent effective in preventing unwanted pregnancies. Those women who want to get pregnant soon after stopping the shot should know that their regular fertility may not return for up to 10 months after they quit taking the shot.

This clinic is very professional. My Dr. Is attentive, understanding and professional. The treatment plan has been working great for me. There's a guy in the front office, I think his name is Eddie, he is very knowledgeable, friendly and super helpful. I had some questions regarding paperwork, he went out of his way to explain everything to me and prevented me from making a mistake I would have seriously regretted. Thanks Eddie!read more
